Information ...Funeral Service Professionals today should treat every case they encounter as possible HIV infected. Just because a body is not tagged by the hospital or medical examiner, does not mean that the professional embalmer should use any less precautions. Many of us work as funeral directors and embalmers in the early years of this epidemic may have been exposed to the viruses unwittingly. Just because the person was young and died in an automobile accident does not mean they were not infected. Nor does the fact that they were old and died of pneumonia in a nursing home mean that they were not infected, especially in the days before testing became as prevalent as it is today.
